Thought I’d give a quick lowdown on the amp show.

Really it was a blast. Sharing the booth with Ron Thorn’s amazing guitars, was not a bad thing. LOLOL

Nick Greer sent out the new Hellfire 35. This amp is stunning. Hiwattish cleans, and great 70s style overdrive,
it was the most widely auditioned Greer amp in the booth. I currently have this one until Next week, and Nick’s
given the go ahead to sell it until Tuesday. An amazing amp, it’ll likely be the only black/orange/tan striped version made.
One off for the amp show, and only the second Hellfire made, after Nick’s personal proto.

Reinhardt land was a ball as well. Bob sent out a Jester and Storm for people to hear,
plus we had a V50 and 18 with power scaling in the booth. All were fabulous but the storm really
had it dialed for the higher gain rock tones, and the power scaling works phenominally well.
Still have the V50 in stock, red with white swoosh. This has some demo time on it, so email me if interested,
and there will be a special amp show discount. Great classic British tones, with plenty of old school dirt on tap.

Chris’ Tuxedo T Bolt left today, didn’t nab a picture dangit, but it’s just like Gilbert’s from a couple months back. beautiful. Nick really has this amp down, still my favorite in the line. Just a stellar all around amp.

Ampshow Coming! We’ll be sharing a booth at the LA Amp Show (In Van Nuys) with Ron Thorn guitars on October 6th. Looking forward to it! We SHOULD have the new Greer amp the ‘Hellfire’ to show. Dual 6L6 in cathode bias pushing around 35 ‘nick watts’ with a Special amps show only color. Should be great!

We’ll also have a nice selection of Reinhard amps to demo. Should be a Vintage 50, Ampzilla and 18. Possibly a storm, as well as Greer Cam18, Thunderbolt 30, Hellfire, Studio 10 and a couple other special things….

Well, my first Ampzilla came through, wow what an amp. Fantastic tones. Bob really put together a great package with it. Ch.1 very ‘wreckish’ cleans and light OD, and Ch2 is like he best modded marshall you ever heard. Lusting for a Jubilee Marshall? Forget it after hearing this one!!! Sweet amp!!

Paul from TGP and Thorn Forums will take delivery on Friday, and I’m sure he’ll be rocking out shortly thereafter! Loving my favorite tolex combination of red and white ’starsky and hutch’ colors too!

Getting ready for the ampshow, should be fantastic! October 6 at the airtel hotel in Van Nuys, Phatdaddy will be sharing a booth with Ron Thorn guitars, so come bye and see us and check out some amps and pedals, with the worlds greatest guitars.

Bob Reinardt will make sure we’re set, with a Ampzilla, and I’ll also have a Vintage 50, and ‘the 18′ head to check out.

Coming from Nick Greer, will be the release of a brand new model the Hellfire, available in orange and black with tan stripes for order at the amp show only! The amp will be available in all other colors after the show. Even if you can’t make it, we can hook you up if the order’s placed that weekend.

Paul’s Ampzilla!

I had an awesome time. Nick’s a bud for sure, but it was beyond cool to watch the guy work; play prototypes and and see the ‘evolution’ of the amps and pedals.

Mostly I concentrated on playing and hearing the amps I haven’t had the pleasure to yet, so I’ll detail a few.

Special 20:

This really amazed me. I’ve called it the ‘American Cousin’ to the Cam, but it’s really RADICALLY different. Non master volume, fixed bias, and a FAC control that changes the tone Stack. Very interactve with the tone control. This to me sounded vaguely reminiscent of the Brown/Tweed deluxe type tones, but capable of the most fantastic chime and shimmer. The Pentode preamp tube (similar to an EF86 but more stable) really made it extremely pedal friendly, and just so enveloping. The tone just sucked you in. Really a bold overdrive, or a killer clean. Again very american voiced, but radically different depending on the FAC control. I played it with both 6v6 and 5881s. (It’s fixed bias, so it’s NOT plug and play like the CAM).

Thunderchief:

What can I say. This is the newest amp in the greer line, and I was really taken with it. To me, it sounded like the best AC30 ever, but with more girth and thump to it. Plenty of that great chime, but as it an quad 6v6, it had that OOMPH to it that EL84s can sometime lack. The boost switch on the back really added a nice dimension to it. Runs all 12ax7’s but was really open as if it did run a pentode preamp. Neat trick. Interesting design, and very versitile tone controls. Impressive.

Maurader:

This was one I was REALLY dying to hear. The Maurader is a subtle 35 watts. What I mean is, you sorta think it would be louder, but it gets away from you. It’s not ‘painful’ loud, so it’s really deceiving how loud it is. With a strat or tele, it was like SRV in a box. You instantly got that great texas tone, which is what Nick was going for. This was with 5881 tubes. With Nick’s R8 it was a different beast. Sorta equal parts JTM45 and Super. Fantastic set of tones, and a full rich clean.

Rev50:

I think this is Nick’s favorite amp! Sounds like the perfect marriage of HIWATT and Marshall. With Nickism’s all over it!

The Tone controls work like gain stages to push the amp into saturation. BIG CLEANS or HUGE OVERDRIVES abound in this sucker. Its a serious BEAST! With P90’s I was feeling some serious ‘Who’ Vibe, but it was really more versitile than that. Mindblowing how the tones worked. Each tone overdrove it’s set of frequecies or cleaned them up. As usual, back off on the guitar volume to clean up further, dig in for more meat!

There were also a couple protos I’m not at liberty to talk about yet, some amazing stuff. Nick’s a young cat, but he’s really got a ’sky’s the limit’ sort of attitude about his builds. It’s very impressive.

Also got to hear some other great pedals. Buttertone, Razor Burn and some prototype stuff.

The only thing better than spending a week with your buddy in Georgia, is when that buddy makes some killer toyz!
